We are always inspired
by stories of young people doing remarkable work in
their countries to facilitate development in the lives of people in their
communities and throughout the continent. This year’s list identifies young
Africans, mostly below 30 years of age, who are prominent in their areas of activism
or fields of expertise and are coming up with innovative ways to address some
of the challenges faced by the continent. Which I believe in you too that you
can also be one of them. The list of great achiever is endless.

Toyosi Akerele
Toyosi is the founder of Nigeria’s first and most prominent youth interest organization, RISE, is a consummate young professional and outstanding Manager. Toyosi’s is also a Public Speaker, Youth Advocate and Entrepreneur. She was selected as part of 101 young African Leaders to be delegates to the African Business Leaders’ Forum. A multiple award winner, “The Best Use of Youth Advocacy Category at the 2008 edition of Nigeria’s Boldest and Brightest Youth Achievement Awards and the Future Awards of which she has been nominated 5 consecutive Years.
In 2011, Toyosi
was invited as a Consultant and Strategist on the Federal Government Project
tagged “Bring Back the Book”, an initiative with the aim to encourage Young
Nigerians to cultivate a Reading Culture. She was a finalist for the category
of Business Owner of the Year at the 6th Season of The Future Nigeria Awards.
Toyosi is a worthy alumnus of the United States Government’s Prestigious
International Visitor Leadership Program for emerging African Youth Leaders.
Toyosi Akerele was in June 2011 described by Mrs Michelle Obama, the First Lady
of the United States of America, as one of her personal inspirations. She is a

Dayo Israel is an astute motivational speaker and advisor to many world leaders, business executive, politicians, young entrepreneur and sports professionals. Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2009 at the 13th Success Digest Enterprise

GT Da Guitarman
Following his success as an artist and a songwriter. GT, who has now become a brand of his own regarding pure soulful entertainment and as an icon of perseverance, has decided to explore his entrepreneurial tendencies by branching out and starting up his own record label, which he has dubbed Ember Entertainment. He is working toward releasing his second album under this record label. “Why Ember?” you ask. Well seeing as he is always saying, “If anybody can, I can. Even if they can’t, I still can!” It is only fitting then that his entertainment company be given a name that emulates his die-hard spirit. Gbenga Sesan
Gbenga Sesan was appointed Nigeria‘s first Information
Technology Youth Ambassador in October 2001.His interest and work is built
around the use of ICTs in socio-economic transformation—focusing on underserved
groups. He is the Executive Director of Paradigm Initiative Nigeria and was the pioneer
Program Manager of Lagos Digital Village, a multistakeholder telecenter project
that provides training, research and mentorship
opportunities for underserved youth in Nigeria. In 2012, ‘Gbenga was listed by
CNN as one of the Top 10 Leading African Tech Voices, and by Ventures Africa as
one of 40 African Legends Under 40. If he can do it, YOU TOO CAN DO IT.
Tosyn Bucknor
She is living life in her own terms and loving it.Tosyn works as an On
Air Personality with Top Radio-A Lagos based radio station, where she goes
by the moniker ‘Area Mama’. She runs a lifestyle blog-Abisona.com, the
brain behind One Mic Naija-A life music concert featuring Nigerian
artistes, and the founder of These Genes; an organization that
creates awareness about sickle cell disease, not forgetting the fact that she
goes by the name Contradiction as an artiste. She is not even up to 40 but
already living the life of four individuals put together. If she can do it, YOU TOO CAN DO IT
Grace Ihejiamaizu
is an entrepreneur and Global Change maker .
In 2010, she founded an after-school youth project, Raising Young Productive
Entrepreneurs (RYPE) Initiative. Through RYPE, more than 350 young people have
been trained, engaged and empowered. Grace outstanding leadership skills has
earned her some national and international recognition including being named
one of Google’s 12 Brightest Young Minds in 2011, and the recognition by US
State Department as International Exchange Alumni Member for the Month for
September 2012. She was also selected as one of the top 60 Global Change Makers
in 2012. At only 22 years, she has just started a Social Enterprise company,
iKapture Networks, which provides educational services and products to
secondary and post-secondary students in Nigeria. She is also the founder and
content creator of the fast-growing online platform, opportunitydesk.org, with
more than 100,000 visitors monthly from over 160 countries across the world.
Bucknor-Obruthe has earned awards like The Future Awards 2006 – “The Entrepreneur of the year” and Wedding Planner Magazine 2007 – “Wedding Planner of the Year” but apart from planning events, she also organises frequent training sessions, seminars and workshops where she teaches young people entrepreneurial skill, management and how to be a successful event planner.

Model, blogger, Author you name it she’s probably done it Linda Ikeji is another blogger who has made my list and clearly deserves it. She is an inspiration to many young girls as she has managed to achieve much and provided opportunities for other to do the same through her modelling agency.

If you love to Google up the latest Nigerian news then you must have at some point come in contact with Bella naija as it has constantly managed to entertain Nigerian all over the world. Her website is much more centred towards weddings and fashion and every now and then there are articles which although I consider are often rantings by Nigerian women are nonetheless fun to read. Uchenna Eze has also featured on Oprah.
