-There are 15 candidates vying for the gubernatorial ticket in Lagos State, but Messrs Akinwunmi Ambode and Jimi Agbaje are the front runners. Despite the popularity of these two, only a few know about their background, profiles and achievements.

Early life
Jimi Agbaje was born on March 2, 1957 in Lagos State, Nigeria to late Chief Julius Kosebinu (Banker) and Mrs. Margaret Olabisi (teacher) Agbaje. He is the second born and first male child of five children (two female and two male siblings).
Akinwunmi Ambode was born on June 14, 1963 at the Epe General Hospital, Epe, Lagos, as the sixth of ten children. His late father, Festus Akinwale Ambode was a teacher while his mother, Christianah Oluleye Ambode (nee Oresanya) was an entrepreneur who ran a thriving sewing business in her prime.
Education
Agbaje is a pharmacist by training from the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife. He is a Fellow, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (FPSN); Fellow, West African Post Graduate College of Pharmacists (FPCPharm); Merit Award Winner (MAW), Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (Lagos State).
Ambode attended Federal Government College, Warri and the University of Lagos where he studied Accounting, graduating in 1984. Ambode also qualifies as a Chartered Accountant and holds a Masters Degree programme in Accounting, specializing in Financial Management.
Work & Political Life
Agbaje founded his own company in 1982, JAYKAY Pharmaceutical and Chemical Company Limited and was Managing Director until 2005 when he decided to venture into politics.
Jimi Agbaje also sits on the Board of other organizations including Oakwood Park Ltd, Atlantic Hall Secondary School Epe, Agbaje Outreach (a project dedicated to helping the less fortunate) and has served as business mentor at Fate Foundation.
Ambode commenced his civil career at the Lagos State Waste Disposal Board (now LAWMA) as Accountant Grade II. He has since served in various capacities over a 27 year period including Auditor General for Local Governments and Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Ministry of Finance.
Achievements
Mr. Agbaje held various professional appointments which include National Chairman, Nigerian Association of General Practice Pharmacists (1990 – 1993), Chairman, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (Lagos State) 1994 – 1997, Chairman, 1994 National Conference Planning committee of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, National Secretary Nigerian Association of General Practice (1987-1990).
He is the National Chairman, Nigerian Association of General Practice Pharmacist (NAGPP), Chairman, Lagos State Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria and Committee Member of Lagos State Task Force on Fake & Aldulterated Drugs.
Mr Ambode was in 1998 awarded the US Fulbright Scholarship for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program, in Boston University, Massachusetts, USA. His Fellowship Year was spent studying Public Leadership with emphasis on Finance and Accounting.
During this programme Ambode had professional internships at The Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, the Cabinet Office of Administration and Finance (Governor’s Office), City of Boston Treasury Office as well as with the World Bank and IMF.
In February 2006, Ambode was given the added responsibility ofaccountant general for Lagos State, in charge of all the financial activities of the state and directly responsible for over 1400 accountants in the state service
