His last chance of winning silverware with hometown club Liverpool slipped from his grasp at Wembley Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
But after a disappointing result, quickly followed by an online backlash from furious fans, Steven Gerrard appeared keen to put his frustrating day at the office behind him by partying at an upmarket London nightclub.
The 34-year-old midfielder was seen making an exit from popular watering hole Boujis on Sunday evening – hours after his team crashed to a 2-1 FA Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Aston Villa.

Given the context Gerrard looked understandably brow-beaten, and somewhat the worse for wear, following an evening out with pals at the Kensington venue.
The former England captain was at his understated best in a white shirt and jeans, but gave his ensemble an edgy flourish courtesy of his collarless leather bomber jacket.
Gerrard was lambasted by Twitter users following an individual performance that fell drastically short of his usually high-standards in the heart of Liverpool’s midfield.
Despite his team taking the lead through Phillippe Coutinho, the prospect of an FA Cup final against Arsenal was snatched away by two Villa goals - one from Christian Benteke and, in the second half, another from England midfielder Fabian Delph.
Passage to the final would have been the perfect send-off for Gerrard, who will leave Premier League football behind at the end of the season to embark on a new adventure in the United States with Los Angeles Galaxy.
The footballer and his wife, Alex Gerrard, have already viewed a sumptuous beach-front property in Malibu as they search for a family home.
Reportedly worth $25m - £16.8m - the luxurious pad is said to have been offered to the midfielder, 34, by his new football club, who'll foot the $20,000 a week (£13,400) rent over the 18-month period he's signed to the team.
With six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, the swanky property also boasts sweeping mountain and Pacific Ocean views and was regularly featured on reality show The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.
Yolanda Foster and her music producer husband David had the modern property custom-built to their taste in 2009, and resided there with the 51-year-old star's three children, including model Gigi Hadid.

Located in the resplendent area of Carbon Canyon in Malibu, near to Los Angeles International Airport and just a short 15 minutes from beach-perfect Santa Monica, it seems the Gerrard family will have lots to keep them occupied over the next year and a half.
Gerrard, Alex, 32, and their daughters Lilly-Ella, ten, eight-year-old Lexie and Lourdes, three, are already said to be building themselves a £3million five-bedroom house on a two-acre site in an upscale area in Merseyside.
