Edo state governor, Adams Oshiomhole, has stated that General Muhammadu Buhari’s victory at the polls ended the PDP’s dream of 60 years in governance.
In an interview with YNaija, Governor Oshiomhole said that many people did not think it was possible for the All Progressives Congress to win the presidential election as well as the majority of the Senate election.
According to the governor, the achievement of the opposition party is no small feat.
He said: “People didn’t believe it was possible for the opposition to take power through the ballot box. The Peoples Democratic Party had predicted they will be in poster for 60 years and I had said no, it’s 16 years.”
“For an opposition to defeat a sitting president in the most populous nation in Africa is definitely a huge achievement. But most of all is that the Nigerian people have spoken.”
The former Labour leader also lauded Nigerians for making their voices heard by electing the candidate of their choice at the polls.
Oshiomhole added: “They (Nigerians) have shown they want democracy, they know what it takes and are ready to do it. They know the challenges the country had and went for the man that can solve it. Nigerians have every reason to celebrate. Not just the party but the process.”
The significance of Muhammadu Buhari’s victory is underlined by the fact that this will be the first time in the history of Nigeria’s electoral process that an incumbent president is defeated and Governor Oshiomhole was a key figure in Buhari’s victory
